the Alzheimer's Association Of Maryland presents

"DANCING STARS Memory Ball 2014"  Saturday April 12th

...an evening of DANCE to raise money and awareness for care & support of all those affected by Alzheimer's

Through the efforts of ALL the "Dancing Stars" an amazing amount of over $600,000.00 was raised!  Jan along with her friends, family, and business raised over $20,600.00.  John wishes to also thank his family, friends, and clients who also donated to Jan this year.  A special thank you to everyone who gave support, whether monetarily and/or emotionally.  We all suffer through Alzheimer's, but we can raise our spirits and dance as you will see in the pictures below.

This year John was introduced to a dynamic and spunky Jan Braun and the two started dancing and getting to one another in January!  Jan is the co-owner of ReDeux a high end consignment shop in the Roland Park area.  Jan is a mother of three: Max, James, and Jordan and wife of Johnny.  She is a vibrant, energetic, and passionate woman always thinking of others first.  Jan is a real class act!

Once Jan told John about a song she liked, no more talk was necessary.  They decided to dance a Cha Cha mix to an Earth, Wind, & Fire's remix of "September".  Jan told John how much she loved this song the day they met and how it made her feel happy and excited to be alive.

Jan's mother Sally is battling Alzheimer's and about 10 days before the event, out of the blue, Sally had to go to ICU due to a heart attack and other health complications.  Soon after, she was taken to Gilchrest Hospice to be kept comfortable in her final days.  This was totally unexpected and way to early of a decline as things were going smoothly for Sally who was only moved to Springwell in June of 2013.  The support and care that Sally has received from everyone has been much appreciated.

Jan continued to practice and dance and try to keep her spirits up while spending as much time with her mother as possible.  No one thought that Sally's health would decline so quickly, especially during the final days closing to this dance event.  Jan's heart and soul was being poured into the dance with every step she took.

A special thanks goes out to Betsy Wendell from Octavia II who donated this lovely dress to Jan complete with alterations too.  John styled Jan with shoes & jewelry from StudioDNA as well as doing her hair and makeup.  A one stop shop, StudioDNA has got ya covered!

This is the 5th year that John Dawson from StudioDNA has been involved with the Memory Ball.  Last year, 2013. John danced with Sue Levi and they danced a sassy and sensual Rumba.  John danced with Ellen Brooks in 2012 performing a stylized and glamorous Foxtrot.  In 2011, John danced with Heidi Slacum doing a Latin Mix of dances.  And in 2010, John choreographed a Rumba dance for an amateur couple, Ray Mitchener and Chi Chi Bosworth  The Memory Ball, held at the Marriott Waterfront Hotel, has always been an evening filled with celebration and honor through DANCE to commemorate our loved ones who struggle with this disease.  It is a celebration to family and caretakers to help relieve some of the pain and frustration unfortunately brought on to those who are affected by this disease.
